Sheffield Wednesday are understood to be considering a move for former Blackpool boss Jose Riga, but they will have to move quickly to fend off interest from French club Metz, HITC Sport has learnt from sources close to the Belgian boss.
Ambitious Championship side Wednesday have held talks with Portuguese coach Carlos Carvalhal and he is understood to be the favourite to succeed Stuart Gray, who was axed earlier this month.
But Riga's credentials have also come to the attention of owner Dejphon Chansiri - however, recently relegated top-flight side Metz have made an offer to the former Blackpool man.
Riga has just left Standard Liege, but he is already looking for a move back into management.
HITC Sport spoke to Riga's agent Chris Nathaniel, and he confirmed there was interest in his client in both England and abroad, and he expected him to be employment sooner rather than later.
Along with Blackpool, the 57-year-old has also spent time with Charlton Athletic, helping to guide them away from relegation danger in the second tier during a short spell at the end of the 2013/14 campaign.
