The French club have reportedly identified Mario Pasalic and Charly Musonda as their two targets.
The deal to bring Radamel Falcao to Chelsea on loan is said to be almost finalised but Monaco may have thrown a spanner in the works by asking for 20-year-old Pasalic and 18-year old Musonda to be included in the agreement, according to The Telegraph.
Pasalic enjoyed a fruitful spell on loan at Elche last season, establishing himself as an important member of their first team and making 31 appearances in all.
Musonda is extremely well regarded within the Chelsea academy and his impressive displays for the youth team, particularly in the FA Youth Cup triumph last season, have drawn plenty of admirers.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Musonda’s father is fully supportive of a loan move away from Stamford Bridge.
“Charly must absolutely leave Chelsea and, since January, Monaco have been trying to sign him. Monaco are not alone, but they truly want him,” he is quoted as saying.
He believes regular first team football, even at the tender age of 18, is vital for his son’s development.
“He progresses every day, but he must develop further. Technically, he's always been good but he still has much work to do on a physical and mental level. He's paying attention to this aspect of football.”
Whilst Monaco’s request could delay the deal, it shouldn’t threaten it in any way. If it goes ahead as suggested, Chelsea would enjoy the benefits of having another top striker on their books while two of their promising youth players have a chance for great development at a big club.
Monaco would be relieving themselves of Falcao’s wage demands whilst bulking up the central midfield area with two talented players as they face the prospect of losing a great midfield talent of their own in Geoffrey Kondogbia.
