Report: Liverpool make contact with Charlie Austin’s representatives

Queens Park Rangers star Charlie Austin is reportedly being targeted by Newcastle United, Southampton, West Ham United, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Liverpool have made contact with Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin’s representatives, according to The Northern Echo.

The Sun reported at the weekend that the Reds will make a bid for the 25-year-old forward this summer.

It now seems that Liverpool are pressing ahead with their intentions of signing the former Burnley star and are serious about adding the high-rated attacker to their squad for next season.

“Senior Liverpool officials have made contact with Austin’s representatives to raise the possibility of a deal that would see the QPR striker join the recently-signed Danny Ings at Anfield next season,” states the report in The Northern Echo.

This will come as a blow to Newcastle United, who are keen on signing Austin in the summer transfer window.

According to a report in The Northern Echo last week, the Magpies want to finalise the deal to bring the 25-year-old from QPR this week.

Newcastle were already facing competition for the signature of the former Swindon Town star, who was arguably the best player for Rangers in the recently concluded 2014-15 season.

Southampton, West Ham United and Aston Villa all want Austin, according to The Mirror, while The Telegraph report of Premier League champions Chelsea’s interest in the Englishman.
