According to French publication France Football, Liverpool have emerged in pole position to land Paris Saint-German left-back Lucas Digna for a reported £8.6 million.
The talented 21-year-old joined Les Parisiens in 2013 from fellow French side Lille, but ever since moving to Paris he has struggled to overthrow Maxwell as the club’s regular left-back.
Last season, he made a disappointing 14 Ligue 1 starts while he only managed four minutes worth of action in the club’s entire Champions League campaign.
Speculation has been rife in regards to his future at the club, and now fresh reports from France Football suggest a move to the Premier League with Liverpool could be completed imminently.
“Liverpool have returned for the French international and have been in pole position to sign him over the past few days. The cost of the transfer is estimated at €12 million [£8.6m] plus bonuses,” the report states.
The Reds need to bolster their squad this summer and the defence is arguably next on Brendan Rodgers’ wish list following the deals to sign James Milner, Danny Ings and Adam Bogdan.
Digne is naturally a left-back but can be pushed further up field in a left-wing position. He has been capped eight times by France, certainly no easy feat considering the competition for places.
The report goes on to say that his contract in Paris expires in 2018, while the Reds aren’t alone in their interest with AS Roma and La Liga side Valencia also potential suitors.
