Celtic are reportedly pursuing St. Pauli defender Marcel Halstenburg.

According to German newspaper Kicker, Celtic are interested in signing St. Pauli defender Marcel Halstenberg - but face competition from his former club Hannover.

The Bhoys are believed to be in the market for a left back this summer, with Honduran international Emilio Izaguirre the only recognised option at Ronny Deila's disposal.

Whilst The Sun speculate that Willem II's Dutch full back Mitchell Dijks is Deila's top target, reports are emerging in Germany that Celtic have their eye on a different left back.

Kicker believe that the Bhoys have registered an interest in signing St. Pauli's Marcel Halstenberg, who joined the club from Borussia Dortmund in 2013.

The 23-year-old can also play at centre back or even in holding midfield, and his versatility appears to be a factor as not only Celtic are chasing him.

Former club Hannover are looking to re-sign Halstenberg according to Kicker, who report that the player has already received offers - including from Celtic.

It may be hard to prise Halstenberg away from Hannover considering his previous affinity with the club, but Celtic have the lure of Champions League football on their side as they battle to sign the German left back.
