Report: Aston Villa ‘have the edge’ over Newcastle and Liverpool in Jordan Cousins chase

Aston Villa, Liverpool and Newcastle United are reportedly interested in Charlton Athletic’s Jordan Cousins.

Aston Villa are interested in signing Jordan Cousins from Charlton Athletic this summer, according to The Daily Mail.

It has been reported by the British newspaper that Villa’s Premier League rivals, Liverpool and Newcastle United, are also chasing the 21-year-old midfielder.

However, the Villans have an edge, as “Tim Sherwood’s assistant Mark Robson has a long association with Charlton, where he played and coached in the academy for six years”, according to the report.

Cousins is one of the more promising young players in the Championship and was in good form for Charlton in the recently concluded 2014-15 campaign.

The midfielder scored three goals and created 34 chances in 44 league appearances for Guy Luzon’s side.

The England Under-21 international had a pass accuracy of 73% and a shot accuracy of 26%, and won 88 headers, 24 dribbles and 57 tackles.

Cousins can play in central midfield, on the left of midfield and in defence. Charlton finished 12th in the Championship in 2014-15 with 60 points from 46 matches.

It would be a blow for the Addicks if the youngster were to leave this summer. But if they get a good transfer fee, then they should be able to sign a suitable replacement.
