He arrived in the city of Sevilla on Sunday, then underwent his medical on Monday morning. Now Real Betis have officially announced the signing of 32-year-old midfield maestro, Rafael van der Vaart.
The official Real Betis club website proudly declared the news late on Monday night, accompanied by images and videos, with the Dutch international penning a three-year contract.
Speaking with Real Betis TV, Van der Vaart enthused: "I'm really happy to come here. This is a great club and I really can't wait to get started."
"This is a dream for me because my family live nearby in Chiclana, and I really like playing football in Spain." He added.
Whilst the signing of Van der Vaart has been greeted with great optimism by Real Betis fans, news emerged during the day that for his performances in the Bundesliga with Hamburg, he had been voted one of the most disappointing players of the 2014-15 campaign in Germany.
However, Van der Vaart assured: "Whenever I play, I always give 100 percent. I want to win, score goals and provide assists. The stadium here is always full and that's why I'm really looking forward to winning many games here."
A vast wealth of footballing experience is what Van der Vaart will bring to Real Betis, as he acknowledged: "The experience I have is important, but in the end, I still have to play well. I really think I can help the team a lot."
However, he was also keen to point out: "At the end of the day, we have to enjoy playing football, because it's the best job in the world."
Fans are certainly looking forward to the 2015-16 season in La Liga with optimism, hoping that Real Betis can follow up the capture of Van der Vaart with more quality signings.
