Ex-Manchester United striker Andy Cole: Spurs star Harry Kane needs to repeat his goalscoring exploits

Andy Cole doubts Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is ready for a move to Manchester United.

Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole believes that Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane needs to prove that he is not a one-season wonder in order to earn a big-money move away from White Hart Lane, the Mirror report.

The England international striker experienced a dream campaign last season, hitting 21 Premier League goals and scoring on his England debut within a minute of coming off the bench.

His fabulous scoring run has led to comparisons with former great Alan Shearer, and reports in the Mirror last week linked him with a £40 million switch to the Red Devils.

Cole, however, has doubts as to whether Kane is ready for a move to Old Trafford and told reporters that the talented Spurs striker needs to prove he isn’t a one-season wonder first.

“There’s talk of Harry Kane,” Cole told reporters, according to The Mirror. “He’s had a brilliant first season, but [just] half a season really good {Kane's first Premier League goal was scored on November 2].

“I think the kid’s talented, but we have to be honest. He’s had half a season where everything went for him - penalties at the keeper and rebounds coming straight to his feet.”

“United need to compete in Europe and for the championship as well. He [Kane] is a baby, still learning his trade. Your second season in the Premier League is always tough.”

Cole isn’t alone in his assessment, as a number of other Premier League observers feel that the 21-year-old has to show that his dream campaign wasn’t a total one off.

Aside from his goals, Kane has many other attributes which make him a top player – his link-up play, aerial threat, willingness to apply pressure and fantastic ball control.

However, strikers are judged on their goals and the very best teams – including Tottenham – won’t settle for a striker who doesn’t regularly find the back of the net.
