Arsene Wenger reportedly dreams of bringing Karim Benzema to Arsenal

Could Arsene Wenger be about to bring his prolific countryman to Arsenal?

According to a report from Spanish newspaper El Confidencial, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is very keen on bringing Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema to North London this summer.

The report claims Wenger has long admired his countryman and dreams of bringing him to the Emirates Stadium, although much depends on who Real sign this summer.

The report goes on to claim that the Spanish club have their eye on Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero and that if he were to arrive – which is a long shot – Arsenal may have more chance of signing Benzema.

The French international has played 281 matches for Real, scoring 134 goals and providing 86 assists in that time.

He previously featured 133 times for Lyon, scoring 56 times and setting up an additional 26; so in short it is no surprise Arsenal are said to be keen.

Benzema still has a good few years at the top level in him yet, and after a campaign in which he had a direct hand in 37 goals he remains hot property.

For that reason alone Real are unlikely to do business, but with the latest report throwing Aguero back into the mix and speaking about Wenger’s ‘dream’ who knows what may happen in the weeks ahead.
