Will Spurs star Harry Kane follow in his footballing hero's footsteps by signing for Manchester United?

If Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane finds himself in a position to weigh up a move to Manchester United this summer he may opt to follow his idol's path.

Everything Harry Kane touched last season turned to gold as his Spurs form saw him make the breakthrough into the England senior team.

After a number of loan spells, the striker's career is on the up and up and he was one of the stars of the Premier League during the last campaign.

The 21-year-old was rewarded with a much-improved five-and-a-half year contract in February but his form for the North Londoners has been so good he is being linked with a £40 million summer move to Manchester United, by the likes of TalkSport.

And should a situation arise where Kane has to choose whether to join the Red Devils or stay at White Hart Lane, there could be bad news for Spurs fans as his footballing idol was Teddy Sheringham.

The pair have been likened on the pitch for their style of play and Kane's exploits last season matched those of Sheringham during his Tottenham playing days.

But there are also some striking similarities between their paths in the game so far, as Kane spent time at Millwall, where Sheringham first made his name, before exploding onto the scene back at Tottenham, just like Teddy.

Speaking last season Kane revealed Sheringham was his hero growing up.

He told the Daily Mail: "As I grew up I tried to use him as a role model and if I can score as many goals as he did, it would not be bad.

"'I was a little bit star-struck (on meeting him), to be honest. When you meet your idol you don't really know what to say but he had great conversation."

So could seeing what Sheringham did when Old Trafford came calling influence Kane's decision-making?

A young Kane would have watched as Sheringham's decision to join the Red Devils was vindicated with a glut of trophies including three Premier League titles, an FA Cup, a Charity Shield, Champions League and Intercontinental Cup.

And that could prove ominous for Tottenham fans should, as is expected, the Manchester giants bid big for his services in the coming months.
