Why Tottenham should finally move for Dutch maestro Jordy Clasie

A Netherlands international could excel at Tottenham Hotspur if they were to sign him.

Tottenham Hotspur continue to be linked with a whole host of players this summer, with midfield likely to be one of the areas manager Mauricio Pochettino strengthens when the transfer window reopens once again.

But for all the players now being tipped to make the move to White Hart Lane, it is one who has rarely been mentioned lately who could be the best option for Spurs.

Back in 2012, the Daily Mail reported that Tottenham were tracking Feyenoord youngster Jordy Clasie; a player who had been making waves in Holland with a string of fine performances.

Clasie continued to be linked with a potential exit for quite some time, before finally agreeing a new long-term contract at the Dutch side and admitting (in comments published by the Express) that he was in no rush to leave.

“I will get my transfer when the time is right,” Clasie said. So what chance is there of that happening this summer?

Well, the 23-year-old is still contracted to Feyenoord for another three years and he has now clocked up a total of 155 appearances for the club, 46 of which came last season. But he is exactly the kind of player Tottenham could do with and Pochettino may be wise to attempt a move.

One thing is for certain: When Clasie does ultimately leave his homeland there will be plenty of clubs interested in him, and with the rumour mill relatively quiet regarding him right now, some swift work behind the scenes from Tottenham could see them pull off a coup.

Clasie could work well alongside Nabil Bentaleb and his ability to create – he has 24 assists for Feyenoord so far – means Harry Kane could also benefit from his presence in the team.
