Derby County sold Jason Shackell to Burnley in the summer of 2012.

As per the latest reports in the Derby Telegraph, Derby County have lodged a £2 million bid to re-sign Burnley defender Jason Shackell.

The 31-year-old centre-back first joined the Rams from Barnsley in 2011, but after one season under then-boss Nigel Clough he was sold to fellow Championship side Burnley.

It was a move which initially surprised many of the Rams supporters, considering he had a decent campaign at the Ipro stadium and came runner-up in Player of the Season vote.

Nonetheless, Shackell joined the Clarets on a four-year contract and led the club to promotion in 2014, incidentally pipping Derby to the second automatic promotion spot.

Now, with the defender entering the final 12 months of his deal and the Clarets back in the second-tier, Derby are keen on bringing him back to the East Midlands, as confirmed by club reporter Owen Bradley.

The Rams are making a summer splash under new owner Mel Morris and newly-appointed manager Paul Clement with promotion to the Premier League their main season objective.

Darren Bent, Jason Pearce and Scott Carson have already arrived, and the prospect of re-signing Shackell has seemingly gone down well with the supporters commenting on Twitter.
