Talking to the German national team’s official website, Emre Can revealed that his ambition at Liverpool is to win the Premier League title.
The 21-year-old, who is expected to play a key role for Germany in the under-21 European Championship this month, was asked what his ambitions at Liverpool were and what his expectations with the under-21s are for this summer.
‘’I did not go to Liverpool to play only football,’’ said Can. ‘’I want to win [Premier League] titles there. Nevertheless, I want to first win something with the U21s here.’’
The defensive midfielder also praised the England under-21 side and added: ‘’What I experience in Liverpool [the youth set up] is very strong. The youth work in England is very good. The U21 England side is a really good team is quite rightly one of the favourites for the title.’’
Can Emre Can win a title with Liverpool?
After last season’s disappointment, a title push next season would seem too ambitious for the most optimistic of Liverpool fans. However, steady improvement and personal growth in the younger players could get them close in the future.
The deficiencies in Liverpool’s side are well documented, so Brendan Rodgers should know what to do this summer in order to put the Reds back into contention for the Premier League title.
Manchester United promise to be stronger next season, as do Arsenal and Manchester City, while Chelsea will naturally be favourite following their domination on the competition in this season just gone.
Can will be hoping for a better season next time round, but Rodgers’ will need to perform a minor miracle if the Reds are to lift the title.
A top four finish would be a huge achievement in itself considering the competition, but for Liverpool fans that will be the expectation heading into the new campaign.
