Tottenham target Toby Alderweireld wants Premier League return

Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Manchester City are reportedly interested in former Southampton loanee Toby Alderweireld.

Tottenham Hotspur target Toby Alderweireld has told The Mirror that he wants to play in the Premier League next season.

Alderweireld featured on loan for Southampton from Atletico Madrid during the recently concluded 2014-15 campaign.

The 26-year-old had a very good season and was one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

The Belgium international, who can play as a centre-back as well as a right-back, scored one goal and created seven chances in 26 league appearances.

Alderweireld had a pass accuracy of 80% and a shot accuracy of 58%, and won 37 headers, seven dribbles and 35 tackles.

The former Ajax star has now said that he wants to return to the Premier League next season.

“The only thing I can say is that I’m happy in England, but it isn’t just up to me,” the Belgian told The Mirror. “I had a fantastic season at Southampton and after I have been on holiday I will talk with Atletico.

“I don’t have an answer now, but hopefully Atletico will tell me quickly what is happening. It would be good to come back to England.”

Alderweireld’s comments will come as good news to Tottenham and suggest that the North London outfit can still sign him, as he seems to be keen on playing in England next season.

According to The Mirror, Spurs are interested in the services of the Atletico-owned defender.

However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side face competition from Chelsea and Manchester City, who are both claimed to have interest in Alderweireld, as per The Mirror.
