Sunderland fans have taken to social networking site Twitter to have their say on Wes Brown signing a new contract with the club.
The 35-year-old defender’s original contract with the Black Cats was set to run out at the end of the month, but he will now remain at the Stadium of Light for the 2015-16 campaign.
Brown was actually included on a list of free agents recently released by the Premier League, but it seems that Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat considers him part of his plans for next season.
The former England international centre-back joined Sunderland from Manchester United in the summer of 2011.
Over the past four years, Brown has made more than 80 appearances for the Black Cats, but he is past his prime and was far from his best in the recently concluded 2015-16 season.
Brown had a pass accuracy of 80% and a shot accuracy of 25% in 25 Premier League appearances. The defender won 46 headers, five dribbles and 24 tackles.
Sunderland fans are not happy with the club’s decision to retain the services of Brown and vented their anger on Twitter.
