It has been reported by the British newspaper that the 26-year-old wants to leave the Villans for Championship outfit Burnley this summer.
Burnley themselves are reportedly set to lose 24-year-old Trippier, who could join either Liverpool or Tottenham.
“Richards is on the brink of joining Sherwood’s side and his arrival is set to spell the end of Matt Lowton’s stay at Villa, with the 26-year-old keen to seal a move to relegated Burnley,” states the report in The Mirror.
“He will complete the switch once Clarets star Kieran Trippier decides whether to join Liverpool or Tottenham.”
Lowton joined Villa from Sheffield United in the summer of 2012 and has made over 70 league appearances for the Villans.
However, the 26-year-old struggled to hold onto the first-team spot under manager Tim Sherwood in the final months of the recently concluded 2014-15 season.
Meanwhile, Trippier was one of the best players for Burnley, and did all he could to prevent the Clarets from getting relegated to the Championship.
The former Manchester City prospect created 63 chances in 38 Premier League appearances in 2014-15.
The 24-year-old had a pass accuracy of 61% and a shot accuracy of 50%, and won 68 headers, 26 dribbles and 57 tackles.
