Report: Arsenal shot-stopper Damian Martinez tipped for Spain switch amid Petr Cech speculation

Arsenal Stadium - Emirates

Chelsea star Petr Cech's arrival at Arsenal could see at least one goalkeeper leave the Emirates.

As per a report in The Sun, Arsenal’s fourth choice shot-stopper Damian Martinez is set to move to La Liga outfit Getafe on a one year loan deal.

The Gunners have as many as four custodians on their books with ability in abundance, but many observers feel none are good enough yet to help the side challenge for the title.

Plenty of speculation has come to the fore regarding Chelsea’s Petr Cech and fresh reports in the Daily Mail claim boss Arsene Wenger is confident of securing an £11 million deal.

If the Blues’ number two does arrive, it would most certainly prompt at least one current Gunners 'keeper to depart the Emirates, and Wenger is seemingly already planning ahead with regards to Martinez.

“Martinez, 22, can’t even make the Gunners' bench with Wojciech Szczesny and David Ospina already ahead of him — and a new arrival a possibility. So boss Arsene Wenger would be happy for him to go to Getafe for a year,” The Sun explains.

The Argentine youngster has had previous spells in the Championship with Yorkshire-based sides Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham, but La Liga is a clear step up.

The Spanish top-flight boasts many of the best players in the world and its goalkeepers have the task of stopping the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo plus Barcelona superstars Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.

Getafe last season finished just two points above the drop zone and conceded a disappointing 64 league goals, illustrating exactly why they are on the lookout for a new number one.
