According to a report in The Chronicle earlier this month, Newcastle United are interested in signing Andy Carroll from West Ham United this summer.
It was reported by the British newspaper that Newcastle are willing to recruit back the striker they sold to Premier League rivals Liverpool in January 2011 but only “for a knockdown price”.
Carroll has been on the books of West Ham on a permanent contract since the summer of 2013 and has a deal until June 2019.
The England international striker has struggled with injuries over the past two years and is not guaranteed playing time at the Hammers.
The former Liverpool striker could make only 14 appearances in the Premier League in the recently concluded 2014-15 season, scoring five goals and creating 11 chances in the process.
In the 2013-14 campaign, Carroll scored two goals and created 15 chances in 15 Premier League matches.
Both West Ham and Newcastle fans have been discussing the transfer speculation surrounding Carroll on social networking site Twitter.

I would take a for Andy Carroll back in a heartbeat, but he needs time to get fit, meanwhile we need an Austin/Bos to lead the line #nufc— Life In Black&White (@youmeandnufc) June 13, 2015
