Manchester United winger Nani comments on ongoing transfer speculation

Could the Portuguese international leave Manchester United for good this summer?

Manchester United winger Nani has been speaking to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo about what the future may bring for him.

The 28-year-old spent last season on loan at Sporting Lisbon, where he played 37 times, scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists.

It was an impressive return to form for a player who has often flattered to deceive at Old Trafford despite his undeniable talent, but with a long-term contract at United it remains to be seen where he will be playing his football next season and beyond.

United manager Louis van Gaal has plenty of wide players to choose from, with Memphis Depay recently added to a squad that also includes Adnan Januzaj, Angel Di Maria, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia, but Nani knows better than to commit one way or the other just yet.

“I am calm and focused on the national team,” the winger said. “Only when I leave here will I think about the future.

“I have a contract with Manchester United. I return to pre-season.”

When asked about the prospect of signing for Benfica this summer, Nani was somewhat cryptic, simply saying, “Proposals abound.”

There are likely to be plenty of clubs interested in the Portuguese international if he does leave United permanently this summer, but what chance him remaining and proving to van Gaal that he can do a job in his squad next season?
