Leeds United fans respond to Alex Mowatt on Twitter after he hails Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere

Leeds midfielder Alex Mowatt was impressed with Arsenal's Jack Wilshere, and fans believe he can follow in his footsteps.

Jack Wilshere scored two sensational goals for England to help preserve the Three Lions 100 per cent record in Euro 2016 qualifying.

The Arsenal midfielder's goals caught the attention of England youth international and Leeds United player of the season Alex Mowatt, who took to Twitter to hail his performance.

Mowatt, 20, scored nine goals for Leeds last season, including his own fair share of long-range strikes and set pieces.

The response from Leeds fans was inspirational towards Mowatt, telling him he can go on and emulate the Arsenal star, whose goals against Slovenia were the first of his England career, at the age of 23.

Mowatt is an England under-20 international, and if his performances last season had been in the Premier League, it could have been enough to land him a spot in this summer's England under-21 squad.

The responses sum up the belief Leeds have around Mowatt, who has the potential to become a cornerstone of their midfield for the next decade.

Talk of him representing England in the future is not exaggeration, if he can continue his progression then there is every chance he will go on to play for his country, as talented goalscoring midfielders who have the all round game to match are hard to come by.
