Former Manchester United player Edwin van der Sar gives interesting assessment of Petr Cech and Hugo Lloris

A former Manchester United 'keeper has been speaking about current Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur stars.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has been speaking to Sports Mole about who might replace David de Gea at Old Trafford if the Spaniard leaves this summer.

Both Chelsea’s Petr Cech and Tottenham Hotspur’s Hugo Lloris have been linked as possible targets for Louis van Gaal’s side, but van der Sar has given an interesting response when asked if they would be the right fit for United.

“One is better suited than the other,” the United great is quoted as saying, “but I’m not going to name names.”

The rumours persist that De Gea could be on his way this summer, and in a recent interview with the BBC van der Sar even suggested United could already have a ready-made replacement in the form of back-up stopper Victor Valdes.

But it is his latest comments that are particularly interesting with the Dutchman clearly thinking only one from the Chelsea and Tottenham players would be the best bet if it did come to signing a new ‘keeper this summer.

Cech certainly has the experience, featuring 493 times for Chelsea to date, but the Tottenham player is five years his junior and could represent better value for money having featured 122 times for Spurs since signing from Lyon.
