The Ireland goalkeeper and Scotland right-back were a topic of discussion for Villa fans.
Scotland took on the Republic of Ireland in Dublin yesterday evening, the game ending in a 1-1 draw between the Gaelic rivals.
A goal from former Aston Villa player Shaun Maloney was enough for the Scots to earn a point, after Stoke City's Jonathan Walters had earlier put the Irish ahead at the Aviva Stadium.
Two current Aston Villa players started the game, two whose futures are certainly topics of debate in the Villa community.
Given took the number one spot from David Forde, in something of a surprise move, after impressing Martin O'Neill toward the end of last season. Given took the place of Brad Guzan at Villa Park last term, after some poor performances from the USA international.
Hutton meanwhile is a regular for Scotland and Gordon Strachan is clearly a fan.
Neither player covered themselves in glory. Given showed his age for the Scotland goal whilst Hutton's crossing was woeful throughout the game, although he was solid defensively.
Hutton knows his place in the Villa fold is under threat from new signing Micah Richards whilst Given is surely set to face competition for his place in the Villa starting XI next season.
Here is some of the best Twitter reaction to their performances...
This is why it's a very scary thought if we start the season with Shay Given as 1st choice.. Guzan the better overall keeper #avfc— Sportaholic (@Sportaholic_) June 13, 2015
Hutton's crossing is so poor, even Lowton had a better final ball.. Decent for backup but would welcome a new RB that could cross. #avfc— Sportaholic (@Sportaholic_) June 13, 2015
Got to say that Alan Hutton has improved a lot from a couple of seasons ago. Looked finished but had a good season for Villa & Scotland.— Yer Man (@Drawski5) June 13, 2015
Alan Hutton showing the kind of form that gets you a place in the Aston Villa starting lineup— Alan Provan (@BigRedAP) June 13, 2015
