Spurs fans give their verdict on a potential Vlad Chiriches sale

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been discussing the 25-year-old's future at White Hart Lane.

Spurs need a clearout this summer - that much is clear. What's less clear is exactly who should be part of it, despite several names more or less guaranteeing their place on the 'for sale' list.

One man who has been tipped for a Tottenham exit is Vlad Chiriches, the Romanian defender who is reportedly wanted by FC Basel. The north London side are said to have placed a £7 million asking price on his head.

And Tottenham fans appear to be very much in favour of a Chiriches sale. The 25-year-old has failed to live up to expectations at White Hart Lane since day one and Spurs will likely need to make room for new signings in defence.

The Romanian has his supporters, though, and many are, at the very least, keener to see others leave the north London club - Younes Kaboul, Emmanuel Adebayor, Etienne Capoue etc.

A Chiriches future at Tottenham certainly doesn't look very likely, however, and reports of a potential sale have created plenty of debate. Here's a selection of what fans have been saying in the comments of the HITC Sport pages:

Vegguy wrote: 'If he goes ; It will be a loss to the club. The only MUST GO is Ade. He has no value whatsoever.

'Are you suggesting that 7M is a good return for Chiriches? If so, Do we assume that sales for less than that for Capoue, Kaboul, Paulinho, Soldado, and Townsend (all of whom contribute less) would be applauded?'

Tonyn wrote: 'Personally I would be glad to see the back of him - one good game followed by one bad - physically he is not suited to the Premier league - lets face it clubs are hardly queing up to buy him or the rest of our deadwood.'

Iruletheworldnow wrote: 'No. Spurs fans never wished Chiriches would leave, they always wished he remains in my Spurs squad. Soldado, Adebayor, Kaboul, Capoue, Holtby, are the players to be sold, everyone outside me knows and loves that now.'

LorryMan wrote: 'Glad to see some of the awful players punted. Now sell Kaboul. It will be a miracle if they can unload Adebayor. They do not need Capoue. Early Christmas for me would be an Alderweireld signing this summer.'

John wrote: 'Terrible player. His passing is atrocious. He also seems to have a very lacksadaisical attitude. Has not cemented a spot in the team or even looked capable of doing so. Is behind Fazio and Dier..even for the RB position. So sell him and get some cash to buy better.'

JeffFreo wrote: 'Makes you wonder why Dawson was sold, a better centre back than all of Spurs current crop with the exception of Vertonghen'

G-$pur wrote: 'Chiriches isn't actually a bad player. He is strong and quite skillful and confident at the back...and he makes runs and takes shots at goal. Problem is?? He can't find form and match fitness if u literally see him start 2-4 times in a whole prem season....the next problem is, he actually look dis-interested in playing for tottenham!

'For me, when a player has no interest or doesnt commit to upping his game via training and attitude....sell, sell, sell. Even if its for peanuts. Our problem is we try to recoupe the money we paid to sign them....and some players deteriorate so fast, that even letting them Gondor free should be considered!!'

John S2013 wrote: 'Chiriches has ability. He did really well filling at right back. He is brave (he broke his nose - wore a mask and broke it again playing), he can dribble, he is quick, pass a bit, really good in the tackle.

'There is a but coming - When it comes to defensive discipline (that is reading the game, being in the right position) he is seriously wanting. Terry is a master at this aspect. Cahill who doesn't have Chiriches natural ability is the better defender. Now I am not saying Chiriches is David Luiz but he is prone to lapses.

'He could develop this side of his game or he could still have this tendency to be caught out.'
