Newcastle United are interested in signing defender Steve Cook from Bournemouth this summer, according to The Chronicle.
Cook has been on the books of the Bournemouth since 2012, and it seems that his performances have impressed the Magpies.
The 24-year-old, who can play as a centre-back as well as a right-back, was an important figure in the Cherries’ promotion-winning campaign of 2014-15.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion defender scored five goals and created six chances in 46 Championship appearances.
Cook had a pass accuracy of 80% and a shot accuracy of 29%, and he won 187 headers, three dribbles and 41 tackles.
Newcastle are looking for defensive reinforcements in the summer transfer window, and it appears that they have identified Cook as a target.
Cook’s current contract with Bournemouth runs out in June 2016, which means that the Magpies will have to pay a transfer fee for his services this summer.
