According to a fresh report in the Spanish publication AS, Real Madrid have identified Monaco’s Geoffrey Kondogbia as an ideal midfield acquisition this summer.
The defensive midfielder experienced a wonderful 2014/15 campaign with Monaco, helping the club overcome Arsenal on their way to securing a Champions League quarter-final place.
His performances, especially at the Emirates Stadium, were ones of determination and intelligence in the middle of the park and his efforts have seemingly left a lasting impression on boss Arsene Wenger.
However, the North Londoners are not alone in their quest to acquire his signature this summer as fresh reports from Spain state Real Madrid’s revival of interest after coming close to signing him in 2013.
“Monaco’s Kondogbia is another of the names on Madrid’s agenda. The club was interested in him two seasons ago while he was at Sevilla. The Frenchman fits the bill and would be an ideal companion to Toni Kroos and Luka Modric,” Spanish publication AS report.
Kondogbia, 22, started 22 French top-flight games last season and performed well, averaging 3.1 tackles and 2.5 interceptions per encounter.
As competition to Arsenal’s Francis Coquelin, he would undoubtedly be a real coup for the North Londoners and another step closer to a potential sustained title challenge.
However, with competition for his signature fierce, Arsene Wenger needs to make his move fast or risk losing out to a fellow top European outfit.
