Manchester United's fastest player in the Premier League last season revealed

So who was the fastest player on the pitch for United in the top flight in Louis van Gaal's first season in charge?

Manchester United have announced on their official Twitter account who their fastest player in the Premier League was last season, and the results may surprise some people.

While Antonio Valencia has often been named as the fastest player on the books at Old Trafford, it is his skipper Wayne Rooney who clocked the highest speed in the league last season, managing to reach 35km/h against Aston Villa back in April.

United won that match 3-1, with Rooney getting on the score-sheet and Ander Herrera netting a brace, and it has now been revealed that the England international managed another impressive achievement that afternoon.

Rooney may not be acknowledged by neutrals as being the fastest player around but United fans will know just how rapid he is across the pitch and that has been proved by his statistics last season.

With the likelihood that he will be featuring regularly in his best position as a central striker in the next campaign, that pace is likely to come in very handy as United look to get some much needed silverware back in their possession.
