Manchester United reportedly want Jan Oblak to replace David de Gea

Could Manchester United be about to sign another 'keeper from Atletico Madrid?

According to a report from Spanish newspaper AS, Manchester United want to sign Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak as a replacement for David de Gea should the latter sign for Real Madrid.

Oblak is just 22 and only arrived in Spain last summer from Portuguese side Benfica, but he has impressed in La Liga, to such an extent that United are said to be big admirers.

The report even includes a comment attributed to Oblak, which reads, “To move, there must be an agreement between the clubs.”

The report goes on to claim that United have already opened talks with an intermediary of the player, who has also been in discussions with Atletico.

Bur when you consider the Slovenia international only recently arrived for €16million – and that he has a contract until the summer of 2020 – it would take a substantial bid to tempt Atletico into doing business.

The report claims that if United sign Oblak, De Gea will then be allowed to move to Real as has been widely suggested, but if the move fails, the Spaniard will have to wait.

Signing a young ‘keeper from Atletico would be a risk for United…but it worked pretty well last time they did that.
