Delighted Villa fans react on Twitter to Benteke's poor performance v Wales

The Aston Villa striker struggled for Belgium against the Welsh national side. Good news for the Villa faithful?

Aston Villa fans will be used to cheering Christian Benteke on - especially since the Midlands outfit wouldn't have survived relegation from the Premier League without the target man's goals.

But, against Wales on Friday night (Belgium lost 1-0 to the Welsh thanks to who else but Gareth Bale scoring the winner), Villa supporters seemed delighted on Twitter by Benteke's performance - because it was a bad one.

Some may have simply taken delight in the 24-year-old tripping up on the international stage, just as he seemed to do in the FA Cup final.

But there were good intentions behind the criticism of plenty of Aston Villa fans, simply because Benteke's current form might just see potential suitors put off him!

Indeed, every bad performance in the current climate could end up edging the Villa striker ever closer to a contract renewal with Tim Sherwood's men, instead of signing for a Premier League rival. And, against Wales, Benteke far from delivered for Belgium.

Here, then, is what some critical and some hopeful Aston Villa supporters made of the 24-year-old's display on Friday night on Twitter!
