26 year-old Citi trader dies while swimming

Sad to report.

Marcin Kania, a Citigroup foreign-exchange options trader in London, has died while swimming off the Spanish Mediterranean coast. He was 26.

Bloomberg News reports that he died on June 6 in waters surrounding Formentera, part of Spain’s Balearic Islands, according to the newspaper Diario de Ibiza.

His death was confirmed Thursday in an e-mail from Simon Boughey, a spokesman for the bank in London. An autopsy revealed that Kania had consumed alcohol and that no foul play was suspected, the Periodico de Ibiza reported, citing unnamed police sources.

Kania and a group of friends were swimming from a rented sailboat when he went missing. His body was discovered about 700 metres (800 yards) from Playa de Cavall d’en Borras, a beach on Formentera, according to Diario.
