Wojciech Szczesny reveals his admiration for Arsenal colleague Mesut Ozil

The Polish goalkeeper has praised the German for his performances last season.

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has aired his admiration for teammate Mesut Ozil on the club’s official website.

The Germany international was struggling at the beginning of the season with something of a World Cup hangover, and was eventually sidelined for three months through injury.

However, he returned in January and after regaining his fitness, helping Arsenal become the Premier League’s in-form side and to their eventual FA Cup triumph - providing two assists in the semi-finals.

And Szczesny says the World Cup winner is a joy to watch when at his best.

“It’s his calmness and his vision on the pitch is something that you don’t get to see when you watch 90 minutes of football,” he said.

“I’m back there and see the whole pitch so I should be able to see all the passes but what he does is just different class. I really admire Mesut, love watching him and training with him out on the training pitch.”

The Polish keeper also believes that Arsenal having all of their stars available ultimately makes Ozil a better player.

Up front, the likes of Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez have profited from the midfielder’s presence behind them this season, while he has also built a good relationship with the likes of Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey, who play just behind him.

And Szczesny believes with the likes of of Sanchez and Theo Walcott playing ahead of him, it allows the German to be even more effective in attack.

“With all the players fit, he’s had more chances to play with top-quality players,” he added.

“Also with the likes of Theo coming back and Alexis signing, he’s had more chances to play balls through the defence and cut teams open. He’s had a chance to play with fantastic players and it obviously makes him better as well.”
