Richard Keys comments on Slaven Bilic appointment

West Ham

Slaven Bilic was appointed the West Ham United manager earlier this week.

Well-known sports presenter Richard Keys has written on his personal website that he does not have high hopes for West Ham United next season.

West Ham have appointed Slaven Bilic as their new manager following the departure of Sam Allardyce at the end of the recently concluded 2014-15 campaign.

There is an air of optimism at the Boleyn Ground, but former Sky Sports presenter Keys is not convinced

“And what does it say about their belief in Bilic's ability to do the job that they've insisted he take a deal that pays him 'nothing' IF they go down this year,” the Englishman wrote on his personal website. “If they believe in him why are they even considering that as an option? Why?”

“I do actually fear for West Ham,” added Keys. “Big Sam did a fantastic job for them. He delivered on every front they asked and walked with pride.

“But if next season starts as this season finished they'll be in big trouble. And maybe they'll be right about insisting Bilic walk with nothing if they go down.”

Appointing Bilic has been a gamble for West Ham, and there will be doubts. After all, the former Croatia international defender has not managed in the Premier League before.

True, the 46-year-old has played in England - with West Ham and Everton - but that was around 15 years ago. Football has changed a lot since then.

Bilic has a tough task ahead of him. The former Besiktas boss will have to better the results of last season and also make sure that the Hammers play good football.
