Everything is pointing towards former Tottenham favourite, Rafael Van der Vaart, becoming the first signing of the summer by La Liga side Real Betis, given indications by the player himself, that he's enthusiastic about moving to the Benito Villamarin.
In comments via Spanish radio network, Cadena SER, the 32-year-old Netherlands international explained: "For the project they have in mind, Betis are the fourth best team in Spain, their sporting director Eduardo Macia has told me."
"That's what Betis have offered me; that in a short space of time the club will return to the top level of La Liga. It's a marvellous project."
Clearly it seems Van der Vaart has all the assurances he needs. Indeed, so convincing is the offer, that reports in Andalucia indicate the player will arrive in the city Seville on Sunday, then undergo the formality of a medical on Monday, following which his signing will be officially announced by the club.
Betis sporting director Macia is a great believer in three keys to convincing a player to sign: A strong footballing project, a satisfactory economic offer, and a good quality of life - in that order - suggest Cadena SER.
Van der Vaart seems entirely happy with the first, whilst it is also pointed out the economic offer has been agreed for a number of days, plus in terms of the quality of life, the added bonus is the Dutchman having strong family ties in nearby Chiclana, in neighbouring Cadiz province.
"My roots are there, so I also want to make a contribution there one day." The midfielder commented recently, revealing that he'd like to finish his career with Cadiz CF, following a promise made to his grandfather.
In the meantime and for the next couple of seasons at least, Betis fans will be thrilled to have Van der Vaart amongst their ranks, as the ambitious top-flight project their club has planned, starts to take shape.
