The top five players linked with signing for Arsenal this week

Arsenal have been liked with some exciting players in the transfer market over the past week.

Arsenal ended last season in superb fashion with a very positive performance in the FA Cup final against Aston Villa.

It was a superb display of attacking football, which is the sort of exciting brand that fans have come to expect from an Arsene Wenger team.

The challenge for Arsenal next season will be to close the gap on Chelsea and Manchester City in the race for the title, which is something they can do with the right level of investment.

Here are five players linked with signing for the Gunners over the past week.

Jackson Martinez (FC Porto)

The Daily Star claims Jackson Martinez has made a decision over his future. The paper points to Portuguese sources as suggesting that he’s agreed to join a European club, with Arsenal mentioned as one of the options.

Raheem Sterling (Liverpool)

The Daily Star has suggested that Arsenal are one of the teams interested in a move for the Liverpool and England attacker. If the report of their interest is accurate, they need to act quickly with Manchester City thought to have already seen an offer knocked back.

Iker Cassilas (Real Madrid)

The Daily Telegraph has reported that Real Madrid shot stopper Iker Cassilas is an alternative for Arsenal over Petr Cech of Chelsea. There’s no guarantee that Chelsea will sell to the Gunners which appears to have forced them into looking at alternatives.

Stephan El Shaarawy (AC Milan)

The Daily Star has suggested that Arsenal are one of the teams looking at a move for the AC Milan star. However, the potential obstacle is that the Gunners already have plenty of players sited to performing in a false number nine type of position.

Morgan Schneiderlin (Southampton)

The Daily Express mentioned Arsenal in a report alongside Manchester United, in terms of club’s with an interest in Morgan Schneiderlin. However, United could look to blow the Gunners out of the water in any bidding war.
