Departing Manchester City defender Micah Richards is reportedly being targeted by Aston Villa, Sunderland and Newcastle United.

Aston Villa midfielder Gary Gardner has suggested on social networking site Twitter that he would be delighted to see Micah Richards join the club.

According to a report in The Mirror on Thursday, Richards has decided to join Villa on a free transfer.

It has been reported by the British newspaper that the Englishman has snubbed a £90,000-a-week offer from Sunderland to sign for Villa.

Richards’ current contract with Premier League giants Manchester City runs out at the end of the month, and he is set to leave the Etihad Stadium.

Villa midfielder Gardner is happy to hear the news, and hopes that Richards does join the Villans this summer.

Newcastle United are also interested in the services of Richards, according to The Northern Echo.

Richards has been on the books of City since 2001, but in recent years he has struggled with injuries and is no longer guaranteed playing time.

In fact, the right-back played on loan for Italian club Fiorentina during the recently concluded 2014-15 season.
