The 26-year-old attacker struggled during his time at QPR, but it seems that he is considered good enough in mainland Europe.
Earlier today, Portuguese champions Benfica announced the recruitment of the Morocco international on a free transfer on social networking site Twitter.
This is a huge step-up for Taarabt, who will be playing in the Champions League next season while QPR will strive to bounce back from relegation to the Championship.
The former Tottenham Hotspur attacker played a bit-part role in Rangers’ 2014-15 Premier League campaign and also fell out with Harry Redknapp.
Back in October 2014, then QPR manager Redknapp claimed that Taarabt was overweight and not fit enough to play a competitive game of football.
“I pick people who want to try, who come in every day and work, train and show a good attitude,” The Daily Mail quoted the former West Ham United manager as saying at the time.
“When he starts doing that, if he ever can, maybe he'll get a game. I can't protect people who don't want to run and train, and are about three stone overweight.”
While Redknapp is currently without a managerial job after stepping down from his position at QPR in mid-season, Taarabt is off to Portugal to play for Benfica.
