The Baggies skipper has heaped praise on the Leeds-linked defender.
Indeed, McAuley is out of contract at West Brom this summer and, by implication, Brunt's high praise of the Northern Irishman suggests signing him should he become available for anyone else would also be a no-brainer... perhaps for a side like Leeds United.
The Daily Mirror have put the experienced West Brom defender forward as a target for Leeds this summer - but Brunt is hoping the Baggies will see enough sense to keep the 35-year-old at the Hawthorns.
And he feels McAuley is a 'freak' in that he consistently produces the goods for Tony Pulis's side in the Premier League despite his advancing years.
Brunt said: "For the age of him he's a bit of a freak really and for him to keep grinding the level of performance he does week in, week out... it's just a no-brainer.
"Ever since he got back in the side around Christmas time he's never looked back. He's pretty much been like that ever since he joined the club, so hopefully they get that sorted."
Another target put forward for Leeds United by the Mirror was Newcastle United's Mike Williamson but McAuley certainly looks a wiser choice than him.
The 35-year-old is popular with the West Brom faithful, however, and all it could take is good offer from the Baggies hierarchy.
