Jose Mourinho was mulling over a £40million bid, as per the Metro, before Koke reiterated his desire to emulate the likes of Steven Gerrard and Xavi in being a one-club man, although both left their long-term employers - Liverpool and Barcelona respectively - this summer for moves to America and Dubai.
Koke has explained again why he wants to stay with Atletico Madrid for the foreseeable future.
"Last summer I knew there was an interest from Barcelona in me. But my head was at Atletico Madrid," Koke told Goal.com.
"I grew up here, and did not have that need to go. I'm very comfortable here, and for now I don't see the need to go.
"Real Madrid also tried to prise me away when I was with the Under-16 team. But Atletico said it would not happen. And thank God, I'm still here.
"Hopefully I can be a one-club man and win a lot with Atletico.
"The goodbyes to Gerrard and Xavi [when they left Liverpool and Barcelona respectively] were spectacular.
"They only played for the same club in their careers, and it was very beautiful."
This is clearly good news for Atletico Madrid fans with Koke being a key part of Diego Simeone's side that won the La Liga title and reached the Champions League final a year ago.
The club has since lost players like Diego Costa and Filipe Luis, but in order to continue competing with the two main Spanish giants - Barcelona and Real Madrid - Atletico Madrid need to keep hold of Koke and co.
Atletico Madrid did not do as well in Europe this season, but reached the Copa Del Rey final in which they lost against Barcelona, who they finished two places below in the La Liga standings.
