Cesc Fabregas the difference for Spain, with a goal and an assist against Costa Rica

Spain comfortably beat Costa Rica, but David De Gea won't be impressed about conceding the only real chance on his goal.

Still sporting the protective mask, after the broken nose suffered in action with Chelsea in April, it was Cesc Fabregas who proved to be the decisive player for Spain against Costa Rica.

Whilst a friendly and an opportunity for coach Vicente del Bosque to provide opportunities, with various of his selections boasting less than five caps, Costa Rica gave their hosts an early shock.

Not the best start for Manchester United keeper David De Gea, who was beaten with a simple finish by Venegas in just the fifth minute, following industrious work from Arsenal man, Joel Campbell, who provided the telling pass.

Spain responded quickly though, needing just two minutes to find their reply with an equaliser. A subtle touch from 'Man in the Mask' Cesc Fabregas, playing as a false nine, as he fooled his marker and slipped the ball through to Valencia striker, Paco Alcacer, who finished with aplomb.

Costa Rica had to suffer then, as Spain pushed forward and eventually on the half-hour mark, Fabregas struck his side ahead from close-range, after an initial effort from Nolito was headed towards goal.

Amidst the raft of changes during the second half, Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla and Manchester City flyer David Silva entered the game, both demonstrating some exquisite play and combinations.

Were it not for excellent interventions from Costa Rica and Real Madrid keeper, Keylor Navas, the pairing of Cazorla and Silva could have brought about a much more elaborate final score, amidst a host of chances for Spain.

In the end, a solid enough warm up for Spain, ahead of their upcoming EURO 2016 qualifier away in Belarus.
