The destination of the Ghana star has been much debated in recent times, with various sources all convinced the winger would end up at Tottenham at one point, only to credit West Ham as front runners just a few days later.
In the unpredictable world of football, it is almost impossible to know where players are going with any uncertainty until they are spotted at the training ground for their medical.
But Harry Redknapp, fresh from signing up to Twitter this week, proved himself to be someone in the know when he revealed the 25-year-old was on his way to South Wales to discuss personal terms with Swansea.
Sure enough, a day or two later, Ayew, who was top scorer at this year's African Cup of Nations and who has been a regular for Marseille for several years, was announced as Swansea's new signing.
And on a free no less!
Unsurprisingly, plenty of Spurs and West Ham fans were a little shocked they hadn't completed the signing that had only a few days earlier looked likely, while lots of people were merely impressed with the Swans' business.
Below are a selection of Twitter comments reacting to Ayew's signing:
Swansea confirm signing of Ghana forward Andre Ayew. Great signing! A push for the top 6 a real possibility now for the Welsh side.— Jacob Chicco (@JacobChicco) June 11, 2015
How'd I miss this? Andre Ayew to @SwansOfficial , that's a MASSIVE pull for them— Arsène's Dög (@TheArsenalDog) June 11, 2015
Andre Ayew moving to Swansea. Is disturbing bruh. Why not Arsenal or Tottenham or maybe even Liverpool or United. Cmaaaan— Hood superhero (@ice_olate) June 10, 2015
I'd put Ayew within the bracket the likes of Tottenham/Southampton are at. Swansea play pretty, definitely a tantaliser.— Cameron Ramsey (@94CAMRAM) June 10, 2015
I was upset with ayew going Swansea instead of us like most westham fans but his gone for the money we all would leave our work place for an— sakho hotti (@HottiSukky) June 10, 2015
@WestHam_Central lets not kid ourselves Ayew would have been great signing. Would give him £100k a week. Right decision— Jamin (@JaminBen2012) June 10, 2015
West Ham fans using the "Ayew joined Swansea for the money" when the real reason is that Swansea are a better team and well run club— Liam Beck (@BeckLiam) June 10, 2015
Maybe we're getting Gignac and that's why we've pulled out for Ayew? Just a theory? The two players hate each other.— West Ham Central (@WestHam_Central) June 10, 2015
Please West Ham try and get Ayew such a quality player letting go to Swansea is a big mistake— 父 Harry 父 (@HHickford) June 10, 2015
