Newcastle are reportedly keen on moving for Bas Dost.
Signing a new striker is one of McClaren’s priorities at St James’ Park, and a move for Dost would represent a statement of intent from the Magpies, with him one of the most in-demand marksmen in European football.
In the 2014/15 season, Dost played 36 games for Wolfsburg, with his 20 goals and seven assists helping them to a second-placed finish. At the start of 2015, he went on a run of scoring nine goals in four games, and earning a wealth of transfer interest.
However, no move has yet to materialise, and with the Magpies keen on signing a striker this summer, it looks as if the twice-capped Dutch international is their new target.
After three seasons at Wolfsburg, he is expected to leave, and the report claims that the 26-year-old has already held an interview with McClaren concerning a transfer to St James’ Park.
This is promising news for the Magpies, with Dost a truly top level striker who can help the club move up another level in the Premier League. With the confirmation that McClaren has already held talks with the forward, it should come as no surprise to see a transfer wrapped up in the coming weeks.
