Report: West Ham face Mexican competition for Ligue 1 star Andre-Pierre Gignac

The French international is a wanted commodity across the globe.

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic completed his first signing for the club yesterday with Pedro Obiang arriving from Sampdoria. Of course it was a deal that had already been in the pipeline for some time.

He is also believed to be keen on another player with whom West Ham were previously linked. Andre-Pierre Gignac is out of contract at French giants Marseille this summer. The French international was being linked with West Ham, especially when Marcelo Bielsa, current Marseille boss, was linked with the manager posting.

But according to the Mirror West Ham are still keen on the striker, who scored 21 goals in 38 appearances last season, with Bilic at the helm.

However, plenty of other teams are also interested in Gignac - including a rather unlikely destination.

It is reported that Mexican side Tigres UANL are very keen on signing the player this summer. It is reported by Futbol Total in Mexico that the two parties will decide later today whether or not this deal is realistic or not.

Gignac's switch to Mexican football would be a real surprise, considering not many European talents switch Ligue 1 for Liga MX each year - never mind ones with European Championships on their minds and Premier League options.

But watch this space, because Gignac might just break that mould.
