Nottingham Forest and Brighton have been linked with making a move for Niki Maenpaa.

The Finland international goalkeeper currently plays for VVV-Venlo in the Netherlands, but a report in SoccerNews has claimed he has his ‘sights set’ on a move to England, following interest in him form the Championship.

Finnish media outlet Yle Urheilu reported on interest in Maenpaa from Nottingham Forest and Championship rivals Brighton, who are both looking to bring in new goalkeepers this summer.

The 30-year-old stopper made 41 appearances this term, conceding 40 goals for VVV and keeping an impressive. He has 22 caps for Finland, and being 30, there are still plenty of years for Maenpaa to play at top level football.

He would be a classy signing, and as well as the interest from the Championship, a host of Eredivisie clubs want to sign him, being available on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract.

However, the latest report has given a boost to Forest and Brighton, with Maenpaa set to reject any Dutch offers to secure a move to England, having been stuck playing his football in the Netherlands for the majority of his career.

The original report of the potential transfer claimed that Maenpaa was already in England talking to Forest concerning a move, and with the latest claim that he is set on a move to England, it should not be too long before a switch is officially confirmed.
