Goals from Mix Diskerud and Bobby Wood sealed Jurgen Klinsmann's side a 2-1 win over the world champions on Wednesday night.
Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan and Tottenham Hotspur defender DeAndre Yedlin had every reason to celebrate on Wednesday night after helping the US national team securing a shock 2-1 friendly win over Germany in Cologne.
The hosts went 1-0 up in the 13th-minute when Mario Gotze capitalised on some poor US defending but Mix Diskerud equalised just before half-time after finishing captain Michael Bradley’s cross-field ball with a well-taken chest and volley.
Having controlled possession after the break, Jurgen Klinsmann’s side then made the crucial breakthrough in the 88th-minute when Brad Evans’ quick through ball found fellow substitute Bobby Wood on the edge of the box with the help of a Jordan Morris dummy move.
After coming on to score a stoppage-time winner in last week’s dramatic 4-3 comeback victory against the Netherlands, the Erzgebirge Aue striker proceeded to play the hero again, turning a defender and launching a left-footed blast into the bottom corner of the far post.
Guzan himself was forced to make several saves over the 90 minutes to keep his side in the match but, having secured back-to-back wins over European powerhouses without star men Jozy Altidore, Alejandro Bedoya, Geoff Cameron, Clint Dempsey, Omar Gonzalez and Jermain Jones, confidence should now be high ahead of next month’s Gold Cup.
Here are some of the other photos from a night when the US recorded their first ever defeat of Die Mannschaft on German soil.
