John Mack, the former chief executive officer of Morgan Stanley, became a senior adviser to Star Mountain Capital, which invests in small and mid-size businesses in the U.S.

Bloomberg News reports that Mack, 70, also is a strategic investor in Star Mountain, the company said Wednesday in an e-mailed statement.

Star Mountain invests in private-equity and credit funds focused on small businesses and makes direct investments of as much as $25m.

In the meantime, Bloomberg also reports that Bank of America Merrill Lynch has hired Jeffrey Hamilton from JPMorgan to head its Canada energy investment banking unit, according to an internal memo.

Hamilton, who will be based in Calgary and takes over his new duties in September, will be charged with developing relationships and increasing market share in the Canadian energy industry, the memo states.
