Liverpool fans react to rumours linking Lazar Markovic with swift exit

Markovic signed for Liverpool last summer but there are reports suggesting he could make a swift return to Benfica.

Liverpool fans seem unhappy over the prospect that Lazar Markovic could be sold by the club this summer, if the reaction on Twitter is anything to go by.

Markovic was one of nine signings who arrived at Anfield last summer for a fee of £20 million from Benfica, but reports in Portugal from A Bola and Record, cited by Football365, suggest he could be making a return to the club after just the one season on Merseyside.

The Serbian has struggled to fit but has shown he does possess some quality, while manager Brendan Rodgers has failed to find a role for him in the side as he has rarely been used in a position that many think is suited to him.

There have been times he has started on the right wing, in wing-back positions, when the system of the side has been changed, and in a more central role behind the strikers.

In his debut season Markovic managed to find the net on three occasions: in a League Cup quarter-final win over Bournemouth, and in Premier League wins over Sunderland and Tottenham.

But as the season got close to its conclusion, when Markovic was given a chance from the start, you would often see him taken off at half-time, which suggests he either hasn't impressed Rodgers or has suffered a lack of confidence.

The unrest on Twitter seems to come from those who feel he hasn't had a fair chance in his first season at the club, and people that feel he hasn't been played in a position the Serb feels comfortable with often enough.
