Video: Reported Nottingham Forest 'keeper target Niki Maenpaa makes mistake on international duty

Goalkeeping Gloves

The Finland international let one in at his near post v Estonia yesterday.

Nottingham Forest are on the hunt for a new goalkeeper this summer after Karl Darlow finally joined up with Newcastle United at the conclusion of his loan spell back at the City Ground.

One name that has recently cropped up is that of Finland international Niki Maenpaa.

Finnish source Yle Urheilu reported last week that Maenpaa was heading to Nottingham for talk over a potential move to the club.

The report claimed that both Forest and Brighton and Hove Albion held a vested interest in the player, who is very keen on a switch to English football.

The Argus reported at the weekend that Maenpaa held two days of talks with Forest over a potential move last week. Brighton also remain interested in the player, who is available on a free transfer, is also wanted by Dutch sides FC Utrecht and Vitesse Arnhem.

It is now understood that Maenpaa is no longer wanted by Nottingham Forest, as reported by the Nottingham Post, and judging on his performance for Finland yesterday that might be a good thing.

Finland lost 2-0 at home to rivals Estonia thanks to a brace from Ats Purje, with the first goal not exactly covering Maenpaa in glory.

The VVV Venlo stopper let a shot squirm underneath him at the near-post which, despite being powerful, should never have made it through to the back of the net.

Forest fans will be hoping to see another keeper getting the move in his place.
