Could Manchester United and Real Madrid be about to swap players?
According to a report from Cadena Cope, the agent of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is pushing hard for Karim Benzema to be included in any deal that takes the Spanish stopper to Real Madrid.
The report claims Jorge Mendes is insisting the French international is included in the deal despite the fact that Real themselves are allegedly adamant he will not be leaving this summer.
It goes on to claim that United manager Louis van Gaal wants Benzema and it is for this reason that Mendes is pushing so hard for the player exchange.
De Gea’s United future remains unclear, with reports almost every day suggesting he is edging closer to the Old Trafford exit. But if van Gaal’s side plays hard ball there is still time for a twist or two.
Benzema would be a fine addition to United’s forward-line, having scored 22 goals in 46 matches for Real this season and 134 since he first arrived in the Spanish capital.
Prior to that the now-27-year-old scored 56 goals for French side Lyon and with Radamel Falcao leaving United this summer and Robin van Persie potentially following, the club could do with another world-class front-man to ease the burden on Wayne Rooney.
