Twitter reacts as Newcastle United sack John Carver and Steve Stone

St James Park

The 50-year-old leaves the club after taking Newcastle from 11th position to 15th, winning just 12 points from 48 available.

So, John Carver's short spell in charge of Newcastle United is officially over.

Some will stay it wasn't nearly short enough, or should never have happened in the first place, and it will be hard to deny Carver's critics after the 50-year-old nearly got the Magpies relegated after winning just 3 of his 20 matches in charge.

It is being widely reported, by sources such as the Guardian, that former Middlesbrough and England boss Steve McClaren is the man to take the management job at St James's Park on a permanent basis.

But aside from some of the bizarre comments Carver came out with, here was nothing more than a Toon fan willing to do whatever he could to help out the club he loved, after Alan Pardew's departure.

Whether someone incapable of helping should offer their assistance is another matter entirely.

It's funny to think that before his recent spell in charge, the Newcastle native had a 100% win ratio at the club, following an earlier stint as caretake manager.

That stint could be attributed to a solitary 3-0 win over Blackburn Rovers in 2004, just after Sir Bobby Robson was dismissed.

As he and coach Steve Stone leave St James's Park, below we have compiled a series of comments regarding Carver's departure.
