The Romanian club’s president Bogdan Mara confirmed Petrescu had the chance to travel to England and rejected a deal from a Championship side, but failed to disclose which club it was, reported Sport.ro, and has signed a one-year contract extension.
‘’Petrescu received an offer from the Championship,’’ said Bogdan. ‘’Today, he had to go to England but he refused.
‘’He felt he should not go there, so he refused it and Nottingham Forest (previously).’’
Should Dejphon Chansiri look to replace Stuart Gray?
The Thai businessman took over as chairman in January and will now have had enough time in the hot seat now to know whether Gray is the man he wants to take charge of the team.
Although there were mixed views on Gray’s management of the Owls over last season, he has generally done a good job and helped the likes of Tom Lees, Kieran Lee and Kieran Westwood into playing the best football of their career.
Dan Petrescu may well be a high profile name in football, but would have represented a high risk for Chansiri who is looking to win promotion as quick as possible.
Gray may or may not be the right man to lead the Owls into the Premier League. However, he is a much safer bet than Petrescu would have been and deserves a chance before being shown the exit.
