As reported by Voetbal International, Bayern Munich have been impressed with Mane’s debut season in English football, and are looking at potentially moving to sign him in the coming weeks.
Mane arrived at the Stadium of Light from Red Bull Salzburg in September, and after a slow start to life in the Premier League, enjoyed a strong campaign. He netted 13 goals in 40 games, also weighing in with nine assists, and impressive with his overall attacking game.
He also entered the record books for netting the fastest hat-trick in Premier League history, finding the back of the net three times against Aston Villa in just two minutes and 56 seconds.
Mane, 23, is expected to keep improving, and he is sure to be a key player for the Saints next year as they embark upon a campaign in the Europa League.
However, if Munich have their way, the Senegalese international will be turning out in the Bundesliga next term.
The report claims that he has caught the attention of Pep Guardiola, who appreciates his adaptability in the final third, and sees Mane as a budget alternative to the likes of Angel Di Maria and Antoine Griezmann, who are both too expensive to sign.
Southampton are likely to be against any deal, and Mane has made no indications that he wants to move away from the South Coast, even with Munich being able to offer Champions League football.
Despite the unwillingness to see Mane leave for tactical reasons, a move could be financially beneficial for the Saints, with the young winger signed on a contract until 2018. However, this benefit may not see Southampton want to sell a player who has impressed so highly this term.
